4 Reasons Why Rain is the Best Natural Cleanser

Despite the high-tech cleaners and purifiers, there is one that is still one of the most powerful cleansing forces in the world. The best part? It’s all natural.

Yes, we’re talking about the rain.

The rain plays a very important role in refreshing our surroundings. Here at Mt. Camisong, we see the rain as a quiet yet effective natural purifier that washes away dust and grime, helps plants flourish and grow—and creates an effective soundscape for some rest and relaxation.

Here are four reasons why rain is the best natural cleanser:

1. The rain clears the air of pollutants.

There’s a certain clarity in the air after a rainfall. Rain droplets attract and trap airborne particles like dust, pollen, smoke, and pollutants, pulling them down to the ground. This natural scrubbing process is a critical way nature keeps our atmosphere clean.

After a good rain, the air smells fresher, feels lighter, and is noticeably easier to breathe. Since petrol vehicles are not allowed to go in Mt. Camisong beyond our parking area, you get the cleanest, coolest, most breathable air after a rainshower in the mountains.

2. It nourishes the plants and improves soil condition.

Rain penetrates deep into the ground, hydrating roots and replenishing groundwater supplies in a way that artificial watering rarely can. It contains fewer salts and chemicals. It’s naturally slightly acidic, which helps dissolve essential minerals in the soil and makes them more accessible to plants.

This is essentially why we harvest rainwater in Mt. Camisong. Not only is rainwater free; it’s also softer and more beneficial for plants compared to tap water. And with the many different species of ferns and plants at the park, we’d collect as much rainwater as possible!

3. It’s good for your skin.

Believe it or not, rainwater can actually be beneficial for your skin, especially when compared to chemically treated tap water. Soft rainwater is naturally pH-balanced and free of chlorine and other harsh additives.

Some people even collect rainwater for skincare or hair rinses, as it can leave skin and hair feeling softer and less irritated. We don’t do this in Mt. Camisong—we have our natural water sources for that—but we do encourage you to look up in the sky and feel the rain on your skin once in a while.

4. Rain can make you happier.

And yes, this is an invitation to pause, breathe deeply, and let nature do its cleansing, both inside and out. While sunny days get all the credit, rainy days can be just as uplifting, providing comfort for those who want to take their time and simply slow down. The gentle rhythm of rain can be deeply soothing and even meditative, lowering stress and promoting better sleep.

Petrichor, the earthy smell that follows the rain, has been linked to improved mood. If you visit Mt. Camisong on a particularly rainy day, you’d get to experience this while walking on our tree walk or sitting in one of our picnic huts, or strolling through our gardens. Just put on a raincoat or grab an umbrella and let the happiness wash over you.

Mt. Camisong is open, rain or shine, every day from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm.
