On June 25, 2026โPhilippine Arbor Dayโ we gathered our team for a morning dedicated to preserving the forest that has been unconditionally sustaining us since the beginning.
Forty Mt. Camisong employees commemorated their work anniversaries by planting almost two hundred fruit-bearing trees in different areas in our park. Led by our president, Oliver Samala, and executives Marlon Alcantara, Victoria Tenefrancia, Daylen Guerrero, and Warren Austria, 155 seedlings of Guyabano (๐๐ฏ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ข ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ค๐ข๐ต๐ข), Coffee Arabica (๐๐ฐ๐ง๐ง๐ฆ๐ข ๐ข๐ณ๐ข๐ฃ๐ช๐ค๐ข), and Lemon (๐๐ช๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐ด ๐ญ๐ช๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฏ) from the Bureau of Plant Industries (BPI) were carefully placed into the earth to grow our beloved forest with the help of our Forest Rangers.

A day to appreciate trees and their vital role in the ecosystem

It all began in Nebraska, when a newspaper editor with a love for trees advocated for his fellows and civic groups to begin planting trees. In 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed a tree planting holiday to spread his message on the value of trees. By 1885, this tree planting holiday called “Arbor Day” became a legal state holiday in Nebraska, making it the official birthplace of the holiday. The tree planting tradition became more widespread in the United States, taking root in schools and instilling the importance of trees into the minds of the young schoolchildren.

Arbor Day is celebrated every June 25 in the Philippines

On June 9, 2004, Proclamation No. 643 was amended to institutionalize June 25th as Philippine Arbor Day. The holiday is to be observed across the country by all government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, the private sector, schools, civil society groups and the citizenry through planting trees and ornamental plants to promote a healthier ecosystem for Filipinos.ย
In 2012, Republic Act No. 10176, also known as the โArbor Day Act of 2012,โ was passed to revive the observance of Arbor Day. This time, the government mandates all local government units to host community-wide tree planting activities. This collective celebration of our environment through reforesting denuded areas envisions a greener and healthier place for everyone to live in, and encourages active partnership and environmental stewardship among various sectors in our society.
So next June 25, join your local tree planting drive facilitated by government agencies or volunteer groups. If you are looking for something more involved, on the other hand, why not organize one for your community yourself for a more hands-on experience.
Though our seedlings will take years to mature and bear fruit, we invite you to come visit our park and watch them grow with us. You can avail of our Annual Pass membership which grants you unlimited visits to our forest park for a year.
